It’s near-impossible to leave the cult.
That’s what multiple escapees of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (FLDS) have told me. They do need all they can get.
Whitney Moulton tells us at Feminist Mormon Housewives about a big, consolidated way to help (see the Facebook link below):
In October of this year, a group of volunteers traveled to the twin cities of Hildale and Colorado City to restore homes that have been affected since the leadership of the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints (FLDS) church has been in the control of Warren Jeffs, their prophet. For those who are not familiar with this religion, they are commonly known as polygamist sect in southern Utah. They have been sensationalized lately due to the crimes of their prophets and injustices taken on their members. During this trip, we were able to accomplish some much needed repairs and cleaning needed in three homes.
The trip down there was eye opening. I had never traveled to this part of Arizona and Utah, and had only watched from afar. The communities are so differing in their conditions. Some homes are beautiful and well kept up with high walls protecting them. Some of the homes are in poor condition and heart breaking that families reside in them.
While working with the Safety Net of Utah house in Hildale, I learned of the items that are always needed for the families that are transitioning out of the FLDS church. I have organized an event on Facebook to gather these much needed supplies and items that can be gifted for the upcoming holidays.
Please use the link below to join the event and help out these families for their venture into a new and sometimes confusing lifestyle.
